Back in October 2002 when 17 Newtownards men found themselves stranded in Albacete, Spain 230 km from their hotel in Madrid, Robert Cardwell’s multi-lingual skills saved the day. The Ards accent is not the easiest understood at the best of times but after 20 San Miguel’s it would have been impossible to communicate with the local taxi drivers without him. Robert is now teaching English in Bangkok and is as keen a Norn Iron supporter as ever.

Robert has been in contact with us through the website and both Hammy and Stephen Rowley have met up with him for a few pints in Bangkok while over visiting Thailand.
